Introduction to Degree and Postgraduate Education

The university was approved as a master’s degree-granting institution by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council in 1993. In 2017, it obtained the qualification to recommend outstanding fresh undergraduate graduates for master’s degree admission without their taking the national postgraduate entrance examinations, and was officially approved as a doctoral degree-granting institution in 2021. As one of the first batch of pilot universities nationwide for the reform of clinical medicine professional master’s training, it also serves as a key Sichuan provincial pilot institution for linking the training of clinical medicine professional master’s degree students with standardized residency training.

The university offers diverse postgraduate programs for full-time doctoral and master’s students, in-service clinicians pursuing doctoral degrees in clinical medicine, staff members applying for master’s degrees on the basis of equivalent academic attainments, as well as international  students pursuing master’s degrees. Through extensive joint training partnerships with universities, research institutions, hospitals and industrial enterprises at home and abroad, the university has built a comprehensive, multi-level and diversified postgraduate education system covering medicine, engineering, management, law, education and other disciplines.

Currently, the university offers professional doctoral programs in clinical medicine, as well as 8  master’s programs in first-level discipline and 11 professional master’s programs. It has approximately 4,500 full-time postgraduate students with 118 doctoral supervisors and 1,374 master’s supervisors. The university’s postgraduate training is underpinned by 35 off-campus practical teaching bases and 60 joint training bases with other institutions.

Since 1995, the university has consecutively enrolled full-time master’s students for 32 cohorts and full-time doctoral students for 5 cohorts. To date, 11,754 students from 29 cohorts have graduated. The postgraduate employment rate has long remained above 95%. The majority of graduates have become backbones in the healthcare sector in Sichuan, Chongqing, Yunnan and Guizhou, contributing significantly to regional high-quality economic and social development.
