A Brief Introduction of Science and Technology Platform of SWMU
In recent years, the science and technology work of SWMU has been closely around the university development strategy, with the aim of constructing a high level characteristic medical university. The university regards key subject construction as priority and teaching staff construction as fundamental, and strives to develop scientific research and enhance the overall ability of educational level and cultivate innovative talents. After years of efforts, the university development priority is more prominent and the disciplinary research characteristic is more remarkable. The scientific research condition and the scientific and technological innovations ability have been obviously improved. The university takes effort to promote the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements and serves the development of regional economy.
The university has a properly structured and well qualified teaching staff. There are more than 5000 teachers and administrative officers in service, more than 1000 experts with senior professional titles, 566 Master’s supervisors and 17 Doctor’s supervisors. More than 300 high-level talents are the chair professors of Changjiang Scholars of the Ministry of Education, the first and second level talents of the national One Million Talents Project and enjoy the special allowance of the State Council. The university also employs more than 20 specialists at home and abroad as guest professors or part-time professors, including academician Weiliu Qiu, Daiming Fan, Xiaobing Fu, etc.
Since the beginning of the Twelfth Five-year Plan period, the university persisted in aiming at research which will meet the key needs of medical science, achieving a great progress on scientific innovation. It has obtained research grants of 270 million yuan in total, which average about 55 million yuan per year. Prizes and awards SWMU has owned these years are as following: awarded Provincial Science and Technology Progress for 27 times, among which three times are for first prizes; obtained one second-prize, two third-prize of China Medical Progress and over 130 city-level prizes for science and technology progress, as well as more than 50 authorized patents.
The university attaches great importance to the role of experiment platforms in forwarding science and technology innovation, having possessed seven province-level core laboratories, one state-level post-doctoral research center, three second level laboratories which belongs to National Chinese Traditional Medicine Administration, eight core laboratories (research bases) of provincial university level, and two province-level core medicine laboratories.
In order to promote the commercialization of scientific and technological outputs and technology transferring ability, the university increases the reform on the system and mechanism of science and technology innovation platform and the scientific research management and academic organization structure, strives to change the traditional scientific research organization model and resource allocation mode, fully excavates the complementary advantages of collaborative innovation. It is the leading unit of the 2011 Sichuan Collaborative Innovation Center - the Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Collaborative Innovation Center. SWMU has its own Science and Technology Park which is the second provincial science and technology park in Sichuan. It characterizes on the development of old-age health service industry, focuses on Traditional Chinese Medicine, bio-medicine, medical equipment and research of medical supplies.
The university issues two academic journals: Journal of Southwest Medical University & Jurisprudence. Both are included in the database of Chinese core journals (selection). The Journal of Luzhou Medical College was awarded as the Outstanding Scientific Journals of Colleges and Universities in Sichuan Province. It has more than 3000 high-end subscribers worldwide, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, National Library, Harvard University, Yale University, etc.
