Striving for Excellence and Achieving New Success! SWMU Women’s Football Team Wins Second Place in the National Finals of the Women’s Division B of the National Youth Campus Football League

On July 27, the National Finals of the Women’s Division B of the 2025–2026 National Youth Campus Football Four-Level League successfully concluded at the Luxi Plateau Football Training Base in Yunnan. The Southwest Medical University Women’s Football Team showed no fear in the face of strong opponents and fought hard throughout the competition, advancing through each round and ultimately winning second place in the National Finals, adding to the university’s outstanding record in top-level national campus football competitions. Liu Hao of the School of Physical Education was named Best Team Leader, while Qin Yi was named Outstanding Coach.

The competition was under the supervision of the Ministry of Education and organized by the China Student Sports Federation, and was the highest-level and top-tier competition in the field of campus football in China. A total of 26 strong university teams from undergraduate institutions across the country gathered at the plateau venue and competed fiercely over a 10-day intensive schedule. Faced with the harsh conditions of the plateau, including changing weather, alternating intense sunshine and rain showers, the young women of the Southwest Medical University Women’s Football Team withstood the dual challenges to their physical fitness and willpower. With their excellent football skills and tenacious youthful spirit, they demonstrated their outstanding performance on the field.

In the group stage, the Southwest Medical University Women’s Football Team won all three matches without conceding a goal, advancing as the group winners by a clear margin. The team defeated Lanzhou University of Finance and Economics 1–0, Guizhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine 3–0, and Luoyang Normal University 4–0, securing a place in the Round of 16. In the knockout stage, the team played steadily and advanced step by step. In the Round of 16, they defeated Qinghai Normal University 4–0 without conceding a goal, and in the quarterfinals, they defeated Huazhong University of Science and Technology 1–0, reaching the national top four for the third consecutive year and continuing their strong performance on the national top-level stage.

In the semifinal, the players withstood the dual pressure of altitude sickness and physical exhaustion, battling fiercely against a strong opponent, Anhui University of Chinese Medicine, and ultimately prevailed 2:1 to advance to the championship match. In the final showdown, facing a formidable rival, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, the women's football team overcame the physical fatigue brought on by a grueling schedule of high-intensity matches. Every run, every defensive stand, and every shot embodied the sweat of countless days of training. Though they narrowly lost by a single goal, they claimed the national finals runner-up title with a spirit of tenacious perseverance.

Throughout the tournament, the SWMU women’s football team scored 15 goals while conceding only 2, underscoring their outstanding strength with impressive statistics. Notably, the team has reached the national top three for three consecutive years: they won the national championship in 2024, finished third in 2025, and claimed the runner-up title this year. They have also retained the championship of the Sichuan Provincial “Gongga Cup” University Women’s Campus Football Tournament and earned multiple other major provincial honors, achieving the best-ever result for a university team in national collegiate campus football competitions.

The tenacious efforts on the field vividly embody the spirit of SWMU students — unity and collaboration, courage in the face of adversity, and a never-say-die attitude. These outstanding achievements are a vivid testament to the university’s implementation of campus football reform initiatives, its deepening of university-local sports cooperation, and its practice of the educational philosophy of “simultaneous development of five domains of education.” They also represent the fruitful outcomes of the Sichuan Provincial “Gongga Cup” in promoting training and character development through competition.

In the future, the university will remain committed to the educational philosophy of “Health First”, vigorously implement the Student Physical Fitness Enhancement Plan, and continue to strengthen its distinctive campus football brand. It will steadily promote higher quality and greater efficiency in its physical education work, comprehensively empower young students to develop morally, intellectually, physically, aesthetically, and through labor, and strive to write a new chapter in the flourishing development of sports at Southwest Medical University.
